Owners: Your like and dislike of 2016 Tacoma
I have had my TRD Sport Crew Cab V-6 4WD for over a month and 850 miles.
I like everything about the truck except the sound of the engine in city driving and the mismatched transmission that can't figure out which gear it should be in to ensure a smooth driving feel.
The transmission annoyingly shifts down in my highway commute. My 2003 Explorer with 110K never downshifted during the same trip. If this is a sign of a 6 speed transmission, I much rather have a 5 speed. My 2009 Mercedes E350 has a 7 speed transmission and never down shifts like crazy the way this Tacoma does.
Having had a 96 Camry V-6, and three Lexus RXs over the years, I expected much smoother SOUNDING V-6 than the one that is 2016 Tacoma. What did they learn for engine sound from 2005-2015 style? Anything?
Build quality, fit and finish, highway ride smoothness ( when transmission is not downshifting) are excellent.
