After-Market Steering Wheel Airbag

I was reading some old articles from the 1990s about aftermarket air bags in the steering wheel. It was made for cars that were not equipped with air bags having the steering wheel replaced with one with an air bag in it. The mechanism could recognize sudden jolts or somehow recognized when a collision occurred without the need for sensors in the hood. I was wondering if it is at all possible to find one of those that could possibly fit either my 1970 Ford Thunderbird or my 1972 Chevelle Malibu. The articles mention 1987 being the minimum model year. But would anyone know a custom maker or someone who would do that? Thanks.
