The beeping versions of stuff needs to stop. Those HAVE to be useless. Visual Indicators (lights, icons) on your side view mirrors are perfect. Distance notifiers (presuming they actually work) are neat ideas too, but again... NO SOUNDS. Vibration? Maybe depending on how its implemented, but no sounds!

The Honda/Acura electronic safety aids can be configured to be only passive - no beeps or vibrations in steering wheel.

This. Yes. Can't stand the beeps but love being able to see the light come on in the side mirrors.

What do the beeps sound like? Mazda's are fairly brief and unobtrusive.

I'd like to at least have the option to hear beeps.

I think the beep should only occur if the system deems that you didn't acknowledge the light - like if you merge when a car is in your blind spot. Otherwise it's overkill, and you either just get used to it and ignore it, or switch it off - both of which seems to defeat the purpose

That's exactly how all manufacturers design it. It's always just a light somewhere on the mirror housing. The beeping only happens if you try to signal a merge into a car in your blind spot.

I like the automation that is available and computer assisted technologies but I think the driver should have the option of overriding all systems if needed. Most of them work well but as of now none of them are able to read conditions as well as a human. For example, if I turn it up and drive more aggressively why can the computer calculate through their various sensors that it's not raining (rain sensors), sun shining (auto headlights solar load sensor) and on a curvy road (GPS sensor) that I want to have fun and automatically switch to Sport Mode.
