2005 Dodge Stratus SXT Engine Electrical Issue

I have a 2005 Dodge Stratus SXT. When driving it the battery light came on and then it started to sputter. It was suggested that it was the alternator. We took the alternator off and had it tested and in fact it was bad. So we replaced it. The car ran good for a few miles but started doing it again, at this point the car would not shift out of low gear.

My mechanic suggested it may be the ECM computer and that might have fried the alternator and also wont let the electric transmission shift. The dealership is not able to get us in for a few weeks to get it tested.

Does anyone have any experience with this area to help us out so we don't have to wait that long to get it fixed?
