Average MPG on a new CX-5 (500 miles) seems low

I got a CX-5 FWD Grand Touring, which according to Mazda should be going at 33 MPG on Highway and 26 MPG in city.

the car is now at 500 miles, and its internal computer is showing 22.3 Average MPG...

is this normal?

will the average MPG go up as the mileage increases?

for the record, here's my normal driving: about 25 miles on highway per day + 5 on city.

Some people get good mpg from the start but it took me several thousand miles to start getting mpg approaching the EPA numbers on my last new car.

I wouldn't worry yet, but it would be good to manually check the next few tanks to see how accurate your built in gauge is. Most are pretty accurate these days, but still....

    Congrats on the new ride!
