I Take It Back - I Can't Live With This Car - 2015 Dodge Viper GT Long-Term Road Test

In an earlier post, we said we'd probably be happy driving the 2015 Dodge Viper GT every day. We're revisiting that conviction, however.

Yep, it a brute American car designed to be the Big Gulp of American-ness. Its always has been and always will be a car that is absolutely raw and brutal. This isn't a Corvette. Definitely not for me. I'd take a Model S (certainly a redesigned Roadster) or maybe an upcoming NSX. But, then again, you don't log 100k miles onto a Viper... at least not easily. Its purpose is designed for this. Showing off. Revving it. You'll never see an electric version of the Viper.

Great post. Sums it up pretty well. As cool as the Viper is with it's no-fudges-given approach to life and that snarly V10, I can count on two hands the number of cars I would prefer to spend $100k on. A Porsche 911, Corvette Z06, Mustang Shelby GT350, or any number of pre-owned models.

Great storytelling, Dan! And nice close! I'm sure Kurt and his wife wouldn't mind the addition!

I think the Viper is a car you own for a short time just so you can tell dinner guests that you once owned one.

egads, is Edmunds paying Frio by the word? This article could/should have been about 3 paragraphs, rather than a novella.

Better this than the Yugo in your driveway, lol.
Make Murica great again. Drive it with proud, and with a bald eagle in the passenger seat!

I felt the same way about my 427 Cobra roadster (replica). It always garnered more attention than I liked, & everywhere I went, everyone drooled over it. I had it for 8 years. And in that 8 years, I put a whopping 4000 miles on it. It was too much of a limited-use vehicle. No top, no way to secure it... hot, uncomfortable, & totally not economical... but oh, what fun!
