instrument cluster working erratically

I have a 2004 Grand Am GT. It has an aftermarket stereo in it, the keyless entry fob will not work,even with a new battery, and the dash gauges work sparatically. Can anyone tell me if this is because of the aftermarket stereo? I have heard that in some vehicles that if the stereo is not installed with the correct adapters then it will cause other electrical issues. It also has the stereo controls on the steering wheel, is there anyway to get those to work with the aftermarket stereo? Thank you for any advice that you can give.
