Having problems with gears

My Hyundai Santa Fe 2001, V6 automatic had a transfer case problem. It was parked for 2 years and last week I managed to get the transfer case fitted. Now the problem is that after fitting the case, the car is only going into 3rd gear when you are in drive. When I got the car from him yesterday, he had not fitted the bracket that holds the gear cable and it was not going to Park.
Please help? Could it be that he did not set the gear cable correctly?
