Lifetime average with many more miles logged should be solidly in the 51-52 range, especially if there's a lot of low velocity city driving being done.

Probably they fudged the numbers. It's difficult to fill out the cars log at the gas station while wearing a paper bag with two holes to see through in order to avoid the embarrassment of being seen in the new Prius.

Range is what determines time between fill-ups, not MPG. At 380 miles per tank, you'll still be visiting gas stations quite a bit, which is unfortunate.

380 is the farthest they've driven between fills. Tank is a bit bigger than 11 gallons so range is about 550 miles.
