    Tesla's strategy of building these cars with the larger, heavier 75 kWh battery pack but limiting the usable capacity to 60 kWh through software is deplorable. People who think they're getting a deal because of the lower initial purchase price will actually suffer decreased efficiency because they're forced to haul around that dead weight. It's sloppy reporting on Edmunds part for not calling Tesla out on this sham.

    So, you're saying it's the same car but the battery is dumbed down?

    If so, Tesla learned that trick from, iirc, John Deere. As I recall, Deere sold two identical tractors but one was smurfed up - more HP or something. The only difference was how the software implemented (get it?) the power delivery. And Deere said they owned the software so if you hacked the cheaper tractor to run like the expensive one without paying the extra $20,000, you were committing theft.
