White Plastic's Fine By Me - 2016 Toyota Prius Long-Term Road Test

Our editors can't seem to agree on the white plastic trim inside the 2016 Toyota Prius.

Anyone who likes a white interior in a car obviously has never had to keep it clean themselves. They're a pain to keep dirt from showing. Plus, white plastic tends to glare pretty badly in sunlight.

So I checked and was surprised to find no other options! They do offer an Appliqué Package, which includes high-gloss black plastic Appliqués that go over the white portions, but still show some of the white!@#$%. I personally don't mind the white, but why can't they offer another option? :/

Glossy plastic does not belong in places that actually get touched. It looks horrible instantly.

Pop off the trim and get a rattle can of plastic paint.

Let me help you visualize the problem here Josh Sadlier. The photo in your post is obviously the Prius white center console. Have a look at it again.

Now have a look below at a photo of a turkish (squat) toilet:

    You're welcome...

I'd have to see it in person, but (shock, horror) I'm inclined to agree with Josh Sadlier. Smudges and dust are much less visible on white plastic than black. It's obvious what kind of aesthetic they were going for ("High tech, innit?"), and I can see how it might not be for everyone, but I don't quite get the cartoon hate for it. (Ditto the original Volt.)

Are you sure that is the console? It looks like a protective cover for transportation before the owner takes delivery. I think the real console is underneath.

The white looks very techy... from the 90s.
