Steering Heft and Parking Effort - 2016 Toyota Mirai Long-Term Road Test

The steering wheel in our 2016 Toyota Mirai is heavy. And it can make low-speed maneuvers like parking difficult.

A question about the turning radius: This is not an overly long car. And often, turning radius is impacted by wheelbase length and the degree to which the wheels can turn which makes me wonder, what is keeping the wheels in the Mirai from turning quite a bit. Sometimes something like a transverse engine will be limiting factor in how much the front wheels can turn. But the Miai doesn't have that problem. In fact, the Mirai's powertrain should be pretty flexible in terms of packaging. What is it about the Mirai's packaging that limits the degree to which the wheels turn?

Usually "effort" isn't something you guys complain about driving Toyotas, so this is interesting. I think I prefer a heavier wheel for highway cruising, though obviously the best steering racks lighten up as speeds drop.
One thing I liked/hated was the absurdly light steering on our 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. You could (and I did) spin the wheel around and around one handed all day. The problem was that it never weighed up when driving on the freeway, and it had the largest dead spot in the center - at least 2" of spin before the truck would respond - which wasn't comforting. It only had 121,XXX miles on it when we got rid of it last year (totaled) but I'm not sure if it was poorly tuned from the factory or prematurely worn out.
