4x4 won't disengage drivers side front

This morning I was driving down the highway on a ramp and my driver side front 4x4 axle engaged all by itself. After a scary couple of seconds and a pit stop I checked it and it's definitely stuck. I tried switching the dash dial in and out and bouncing the truck around in a dirt field but it won't disengage. Anyone have any ideas on why this happened and any fixes?
