The B58 is an impressive motor, and with a sub-five second 0-60 and a quarter mile time under 13 seconds this is one dead stock 3er that truly deserves to be called fast.

Even the base turbo engine in the BMW X3 is plenty fast. Doesn't necessarily seem fast on paper, but it's enough to push you into your seat.

It's crazy that this turns the quarter in 12.7 secs. That's faster than most muscle cars from BITD. Kudos to BMW for putting this out there sans fanfare.

Since BMW has been doing the turbo 3.0 for a while now can anybody advise on reliability? Specifically the turbos. We know there was an issue with the HPFP for the first generation models but other than that how reliable is this engine? BMW's old NA straight 6 engines were reliable work horses.

The N55 twin scroll single turbo motor doesn't suffer from the issues of the N54 twin turbo. Occasionally the odd wastegate issue will pop up, but a good tech can usually address them. The new six is the B58 modular engine which shares bore, stroke and cylinder spacing with the B56 four and B38 three. I haven't heard of any serious issues yet, the main complaint being that the modular motors are not as receptive to tuning as the N55 and N54.
