    Even though it's more convoluted, I would almost always rather keep an expensive bike inside the vehicle. As a road rider in a great area for riding, I almost always can ride directly away from my front porch, so I don't have any kind of rack.

    Get a hitch mounted bike rack, a big lock & get that filthy thing out of the vehicle.

    So it would not fit down the middle facing backwards with the rear tire between the two middle seats? My Highlander can't do either of these positions. Down the middle works well on our Sienna and I've always wondered if it would work on a Pilot. Losing a bike fitting inside standing up is the biggest trade-off I made switching to the Highlander.
