You're absotively posilutely right, Brent :)

From the outset, at least on late model cars in the U.S., the electric power steering has been surprisingly over-boosted. Who would think a little motor bolted to the rack could turn an otherwise competent (enter make and model here!) into the experience of driving on one half-inch of solid ICE year-round??

The removal of the parasitic load and accessory strain of conventional powered steering(hydraulic) for weight and economy reasons is a noble idea, but it should allow some road feel and steering 'heft' away from center position. Hyundai and their version of Pontiac(Kia) since 2014 have incorporated driver selectable steering mode buttons on their steering wheels or dashes: Soft, Normal, Sport. This is a fair option and I hope it sees implementation by auto builders outside of southeast Asia.

Car manufacturers of Europe, Japan, and America: We want to feel the road through our steering wheels! Lower the input voltage of those things. :)
