    I haven't seen the usual monthly fuel economy updates with the volt?

    It's true -- the electric-drive range is excellent. Even on a juice-sapping, 110-degree day in Phoenix at 65 mph and full A/C, I can achieve nearly 50 miles with my 2017 Volt. And remember, the propulsion battery isn't "fully depleted" when the gas engine does turn on. The battery still has 4 kWh of power, and the gas engine keeps it at that charge level so the electric motors can continue to provide some propulsion in sync with the gas engine (depending on speed and conditions). In gas engine mode I get 45+ mpg on the highway, 36 mpg on city streets.
