Speedometer/tranny stuck in 1st

So my 02 mustang gt is automatic 4 speed. I bought it as a project and have nbeen working on it since. Got her fired up today finally and took her for a test drive. 2 things are wrong. The car won't shift out of 1st gear when in drive and the speedometer isn't working. I just replaced the extension housing seal on the tranny and I did notice a harness to the tranny was really covered in oil. Could that harness be causing these problems?
