One could argue that the 2016 Kia Optima has lost some excitement compared to the previous generation. But the total car is a much more complete package.

Meh. So many cars today aren't boring, including small and midsize cars that aren't that expensive. Sometimes boring is acceptable, I get that, but for most enthusiasts I think they want a little "more" (however you define that). JMHO.

    >>I've spent a lot of time with our Optima and just appreciate how it goes about its business in an impressively polished manner. For just >>about everything I'd actually want in a midsize sedan, the Sonata's got it. It's easy to drive.

Kind of ironic on a post on being a "boring" sedan. that you mix up the Kia Optima and the Hyundai Sonata. Haven't tried the newer Optima or any for that matter -- but the last generation Sonata wasn't too bad at all.

Like there's something wrong with being a value priced mid-size sedan.... just work car... be reliable.

Kia/Hyundai and enthusiast don't mix. These car companies know what they're doing -- but to say enthusiasts drive them I don't know.

"Wait - what kinda car am I driving, anyway (*pulls out key fob to look at mfg's logo*)? Yeah, Brent - making boring cars is a great way to build brand loyalty.

Boring is fine, but if the car depreciates heavily (which Kia's often do) then you should never buy a boring Kia new. I bet you could get a great deal on a 3 year old one. Compare that with Honda's where you'll pay close to New.

I bought a 'boring' 13 Optima Hybrid new in mid-2014. They were heavily discounting the hybrids, so my price ended up at $20k. So Kia basically paid for a lot of depreciation up front.
