2017 Highlander Limited with JBL Greenedge has subwoofer distortion like prior models?

2014 15 & 16 Limited models with JBL were plagued with subwoofer distortion when playing songs with bass.
Toyota has refused to acknowledge the issue. Has there been an improvement in subwoofer design in 2017/
To test open the rear hatch and play a song with heavy bass. It sounds like a blown speaker and rattles the rear hatch cover.
