Tranny problem
A couple of years ago the tranny in my Buick started shifting hard but only on occasion. Could drive for days with no problem, then all of a sudden it would start again. If I shut car off and waited for a while then restarted it would be fine again. Took it to a local garage and mechanic said that it wasn't the tranny but some air control and he cleaned it and it was almost a year before the problem started again. This time he changed the part and no problem again.
I seen the mechanic the other day and he told me that there was a small black box under the hood and all I needed to do was remove the cover, held on by two screws, and blow it out with air.
Knowing nothing about engines, I looked but could not figure out what little black box he was talking about.
Can anyone explain what this control is and exactly where I can find it?
At another garage a mechanic told me the problem was inside the tranny and would cost about $600. If that were the case why did tranny start working right after 1st mechanic cleaned the air control?
Thanks for any help!
