Does the lithium-ion battery costs $3,000 to replace every 100,000 miles?

I test drove the 2017 Accord hybrid in Phoenix today and was told by a salesman that the electric motor battery needs to be replaced every 100,000 miles and costs $3,000 to do it. Can someone please verify if this is true? Thanks.

If I drive 100 miles per day then the car will reach 100,000 miles in just four years.

Depends. Some people go 200,000 miles before having any traction battery issues (link). I think the warranty is 8/80,000 (10/100 in California).

In Singapore, Honda states that the battery will last the life of the car. Singapore tries to force cars off the road at ten years of age though.

Phoenix heat would zap it faster.

That salesman is an IDIOT! While some hybrid batteries fail early, most last the life of the vehicle. The battery is warrantied for 100k (150k in some states), but that's not the expected life. I will say that Honda's track record with hybrids is spotty, with bad results from their efforts with the Civic. Have you looked at the Camry or Avalon hybrid?
