I wonder if the V6 with a Manual Transmission would make it easier to keep the RPMs higher and in the sweet spot.

"It needs much more low-rpm torque" ≠ "It's good as a truck". Ever. That's what a truck is about.

First, I'm a huge Toyota FAN, don't get me wrong on my thoughts here: The lack of power/torque (unless high RPMS) worries me, and this is not the first write up I have read about this engine tuning and theres the transmission issue of "hunting" for gears constantly, pretty much SAME MPG as my current V6 Tacoma (but TONS torque low down). Add that in with: No power moon roof (OR any sunroof option) on "Extended cab" models, rear drum brakes, plastic chrome rear bumper covers (yes there plastic) and well I sit on the side lines waiting for my power moon (or manual) Sun roof on an extended cab, the rest I could deal with.... 10 years of waiting and no moon roof/sun roof option on Exetended cabs (yes they can do it, Nissian Frontier Ext cab has a pwr moon roof) MY current Tacoma has a factory (Manual) sunroof.

Great that it has super resale value...I guess that compensates for the lackluster rest-of-the-ownership experience. This is a lukewarmed-over 2005 truck.
