I've found trip computer's MPG pretty accurate, with over-optimism shown at times actually.
Switching to 87 did not seem to change my mileage. I alternate between 92 and 87 octane and haven't noticed much differene. I don't 'punch it' often though due to traffic and johnny law.
I have not taken a pure highway trip yet to validate highway mileage.
I love this car so much more than my previous BMW330
2006 TL. Just purchased 3 weeks ago, 800 total miles on the odo. Trip computer says avg 24 mpg on this tank of gas. However, it also says I have approx 50 miles left to empty with 290 miles driven so far. Therefore 340 total miles with a 17.1 gallon tank. I think that translates to 19.88 mpg (340/17.1)
Am I missing something? 24mg w/ a 17.1 gallon tank should yield 410 miles?? With 340 I'm not even close. And most of my commute is hwy.
I had better mileage w/ my 99 infiniti which had a smaller tank.
I'm using the expensive stuff. Where does the computer get it's data from?
Also keep in mind that most people have posted that their mileage has gone up after several thousand miles...

I filled up today and put in 13.516 gallons. I was at 330 with 17 miles left on the counter. So 330/13.516 translates to 24.4 mpg which is what the computer is reporting. I guess I always figured the countdown timer was "til empty". Which isn't the case. I haven't checked the manual, but my low gas light came on this morning with what would have been about 13 gallons used which means a reserve of maybe 4 gallons.
I owned a 325I and liked it alot. Thinking about getting a 330i but after adding the options I wanted, it would be more affordable to get the Acura TL. Could you tell me what you like about the Acura that is better then the BMW330.
thanks
Rich
You should check out our Entry-Level Performance Sedans discussion. That's probably the best place to compare the two vehicles.
We also have individual discussions dedicated to each vehicle. Here are links: Acura TL and BMW 3-Series.
Any of those would be good places to start. Since this disucssion is specifically about mileage, this isn't your best choice.
Enjoy!
Great car. Has anyone seen / heard any information on how the 2008 refresh may look like? I anticipate front & rear change with dash as well, etc.

Here in So Cal, we have the blend too & since it is not 100% gasoline, there is less punch out of a gallon, so the MPG drops according to the % additive in the mix.
The HondaAcura product cycle has been extending to what seems like 5 or 6 years now w/ a refresh in year 3 or 4.
The Accord went thru 2003, 2004, 2005 (w/a minor change to an all red tail light, to a refresh in 2006.
The TL has gone 2004, 2005, 2006 w/ no refresh yet, so 2007 is a good bet. Also, the new G35 and IS250/350 will add some pressure to the TL in 2007.....
Just got 32 mpg highway over a 70 mile interstate trip in my 06AT. That included a quick run up to 105mph to separate myself from a convoy of gravel trucks.
Maybe a spy photo in the mags.

Perhaps the average MPH was 42, but not MPG. Even if the guy was running 55, I don't see the MPG getting anywhere near there.
Car now has 63 miles on it and I am very impressed so far with mpg.
Have fun! :shades:

I always use the 93 'tane and get 32 mpg on the highway.
And no AC? In July? C'mon.
I get 32 mpg highway going 80 mph with the AC ON !
I had the kids in the car coming from the beach...hence the 59mph, but not in the vette.... The vette saw 59mph, but only on the way up to 135
I think all Sunoco's offer the four grades?

You case is much better than mine. I bought 06'TL last night, average'd about 12 miles / gal on my way home and about 13 miles this morning. That is ridiculous number, but i am being patient.
Does any body else experienced similar? I am hoping it should improve.
PS. just hold down the middle button on that screen just like you do on the first screen (trip a/trip b Screen) and it will reset that trip display as well. I only wish it would do it automatically when you reset it on the other screen but I can understand why they wouldnt.

Anyway, I never did official tests - I just know that my ave morning commute with lots of stop-and-go got me 20-21 mpg.
Anyway, the last few motnhs I decided to try keeping the RPMs between 2 & 3,000 RPMs and I'm noticing my ave MPG rose to 23 mpg.
Basically, now when I have a long straightaway, I don't shift into 6th unless I'm going more than 65 mph, and I stay in 3rd and 4th more than I have in the past.
Any of you have a similar or different experience? Is this all in my head? :confuse:
This is a gross over simplification - but in general terms -
Look at the torque curve of an engine - the section before and after the peak of the curve is the sweet spot - get too far under (because of low RPM's) or over (because of high RPM's) and your engine will use more gas.
Your engine does not use the same amount of gas for every revolution the engine makes.
