Why wont my truck move?

Hello,
I have a 2003 gmc sierra extended cab 4x4 1500. It has the 4.8l engine and automatic transmission with the floor shifter to engage 4wd hi and low, as well as the position for 2wd and then the neutral position. Yesterday i was driving, i went down a hill and let off the gas, then this grinding noise and rattle came from the shifter area. I looked at it today and tried putting it in 4wd then moving, it moved. So i put it in 2wd and it moved and then something popped and it stopped and this really loud grinding noise almost like a slapping noise. It wont move now in 4wd hi 4wd lo or 2wd. Just grinding really loud. What do you all think this could be? The transmission is fine as far as shifted and the regular gears go. Im not familiar with how it is built inside. What could cause this snd what do you all recommend me doing to fix it? Thanks!
