Need to locate a part name ...

Trying to smog an 02 VW Beetle. Code reader says its ready for smog then while being smogged the car stalls and brings up 7 codes - four are soft codes for all 4 cylinders and four are other soft codes all relating to low circuits. A mechanic said it may have something to do with a data cluster cable, but I can't locate any info on the internet about it. Thoughts?
