Do you know what grade oil was used in the second oil change? The wrong oil, thicker than 0W20 might make a difference. Although, I get my oil changed at Canadian Tire and they do not have 0W20. The first oil change, I asked them to get 0W20 from the Honda dealer. This proved very expensive, so the last two times I have had 5W20 installed (also manufacturer approved) and my fuel consumption has not changed.

Like you, I have been getting about 6.3 litres per 100 km.

    By the way 6.3 litres per 100 km = 100/6.3 = 15.87km per litre x 2.34 = 37 US mpg x 1.2 = 45 miles per Imperial gallon.

The servicing including oil change was done at the local Honda dealer, so I can only presume they used the correct oil. Will confirm next time. Thanks

I have a 2009 Civic four door sedan. Car was purchased new from dealerhship almost a year ago. It has 11K miles. Last week I got into the car and smelled a musty odor. Started checking the seats and carpet for dampness and when I removed the front, drivers side floormat the carpet underneath the mat was damp. There are no signs of mold or mildew but based on the "stale" smell the water or dampness had been there a few days.

Took car into dealer this past Saturday. Talked to dealership today and they cannot find any sort of hose leak, ac/heater leak, or any type of water leak coming from the engine compartment. At this point, dealership is saying they need to keep the car this week while they attempt to locate the source of the problem. Also telling me they are going to send car to auto body shop for inspection. Service manager is saying the car (any car) has "channels" molded into the sheet metal that allow for water drainage when driving in rain and/or car washing. Telling me something could be "wrong" with one of the drainage channels and a channel could possibly be blocked/damaged causing water runoff to enter the interior cabin of the car.

Note: the car has never been wrecked so there is no possibility of "unseen" or "hidden" bent/damaged water channels under the exterior sheet metal of the car.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2009 CIVIC? Looking for any advice someone has to offer for my situation. Thanks!

The 2007 Honda Hybrid I drive had 40 Lbs PSI in the tires when purchased. I was getting 44+ MPG. After the first dealer service (oil change etc.) mileage dropped off to 37 MPG. A real head scratcher until I checked my tire pressure and discovered it was 32 PSI ! Complaining to the dealer I was told that the tire pressure has been "unofficially changed to the lower pressure since it allows for better wet weather driving control (read we don't get sued as often as the reason). I increased the tire pressure back to 40 PSI and my MPG went up to 45 MPG. Problem solved. Could be your dealer also reduced tire pressure. Reduced tire pressure increases rolling resistance and really reduces MPG.

I'm new here, but have read most of the previous posts.. I just bought my daughter a 2005 HCH for her sixteenth birthday, and just curious if there are any obvious pointers anyone could give on proper maintenance, dirving, overall care, etc that is specific to this car? As it's a used car, I didn't recieve an owner's manual so I'm fairly clueless..

BTW, the car has 101k miles and I have NO clue as to previous service or maintenance done on the car... any potential problems I should be aware of?

    thanks in advance,
    Keith

Hi. I have a 2009 Civic coupe that I bought in January. I've just noticed the mildew smell in the past 2 weeks. Going to the dealer tomorrow. ... Have you heard anything more on yours?

I have an 07 HCH...no real problems other than hybrid battery died within first 6 months of owning it...but now i'm getting this faint burning/hot odor from around the car after I have been driving for a while. It almost smells like new brakes being broken in. All fluid levels are good..tires are good, brakes seem fine (nothing is pulling or lurching). I recently had honda change the transmission fluid. I'm thinking maybe some fluid leaked and the smell is it burning off...but this has been going on for 2 weeks. Any ideas or suggestions?

My Civic had small leak in front window seal where, if i recall correctly, water ran down interior and pooled under carpet behind front passenger seat. By time I got to dealer for repair, they had to replace all interior carpet, including trunk, because of mildew smell. It was a pain (car in shop for about a week) but everything is good now. I will try to remember to check work order in glove box for more specifics.

Is there a book I can buy to learn how to do my own maintenance on my 2005 civic hybrid. I once owned a Volkswagon Rabbit and found a wonderful manual on how to do my own maintenace on it. It was very basic which I needed. I am a woman that doesn't really know all the terminalogy of auto repair but I need to save money and am willing to learn. I have been taken by so many car dealers and repairmen that I want to at least try and do some of this myself. I am due for my 60,000 mile check up. But the last time I had it in they told me this next time I would also need new brakes and new tires besides my oil change. I had my brakes and tires checked out by reputable businesses and other people and they don't need replacing. My tires have another 10,000 miles left of wear on them according to a tire business. Thank-you

Did you find the cause of the burning/hot odor? We are noticing the same odour on our HCH.

My hybrid is making a strange noise and the engine runs constantly even when stopped for more than a few seconds. It doesn't make the noise when it is in park, only in reverse and drive. During the last week I had to drive it several times on low gas and the gas light was coming on. Could this have affected the engine in a serious way?

Generally, fuel pumps are located inside fuel tanks and the gas is used to help cool the pump. Running with very little gas on a consistent basis could lead to damaging the fuel pump, but that shouldn't affect the engine. The strange noise COULD be the fuel pump, and perhaps the fuel pump issue is related to the engine continuing to run. I'm certain that when the engine is supposed to shut down that the fuel pump stops, so perhaps if the fuel pump is for some reason stuck on, the engine continues to run because fuel is being sent to it.

Just trying to reason out loud here. Sounds like a visit to a garage is in order

    Hi All,
I just bought a 2006 Civic Hybrid, I've read the manual but it doesn't have a good explanation of the IMA display...like how should the battery charge look, or what the other displays are. Can anyone explain?
    Thanks so much,
    Sherry
