4wd light blinking on 1998 isuzu trooper

My 4wd light ( green and shows 4 wheels with front wheels cocked) came on yesterday by itself. I have not had it in 4wd for some time. If I press 4wd button it is solid light. I have tried both hi and low gears and i think its all on . If I press the button the light continues to blink. will this hurt to drive it this way or is something going really wrong?

I had the same issue on my 1999 trooper.. unrelated I changed o2 sensor and while there discovered several wires were melted apart... repaired those and Torque On Demand light went out and zero problem sincce
