Brakes Grinding

When I break my car makes a grinding noise like gears that won't catch each other.  But when my abs light is on it doesn't make that noise.  Could my wires be crossed?? 

What year and model Saturn? Lots of folks here in the forums that have a lot of automotive knowledge that will be able to assist, but more details will help

    The noise you describe sounds like the ABS working. Do you feel it in the brake pedal when you hear the noise? And the ABS light is NOT on when that happens? When is the ABS light on?
