We have a 2012 modle polo gti with just under 70000 km on it the dealer says it is not covered by warranty and has said the motor has to be replaced as 1st and third cylinders are miss firing due to a possible crack in the block and want $1000.00 just to diagnose the problem correctly.
Has anybody heard of this problem before? as we now have an exspensive boat anchor in the driveway.

Repairing a cracked engine block is not going to be cheap, and I don't think $1,000 + would surprise me at all. If it's reasonably certain that the block is cracked, and you want to keep the car, I guess you have to weigh the cost of repairing vs replacing the engine.
