Intermittent Blinking of A/C and Re-circulation Lights

I have a 2001 Kia Sportage. All of a sudden today, the air conditioner light and re-circulation lights started blinking then went solid and repeated about every minute or so while the air was on. I noticed that there is no cold air now as well. The fan blows warm air. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Also, if you know what this could be, is it something that would make the car unsafe to drive? Thanks!
