Car Buying Advice - 2015 or newer SUV what is best for slushy WI winters

I am looking to purchase a used SUV. I want heated seats, heated steering wheel, remote start and 4x4 or AWD. Needs to have decent gas mileage. I have been looking at Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee - I would love to here what people have to say since I have never owned an SUV. Want one that will last a really long time.

Hi @jochssuv Thanks for reaching out to Edmunds! I'll be happy to help you with your question here. The addition of the heated steering wheel does narrow down the SUV's to just a few. While I love the Grand Cherokee and the Explorer, both aren't exactly known for their reliability. JD Power's initial quality test both put them below average-average, with the Explorer scoring slightly higher. Based on reports, it's hard to recommend either one of these for the long haul.

Till other owners comment on this thread, I'll leave you the consumer reviews for each of these. The Explorer ranks a little lower, getting a 4.1 vs. 4.6, though the Explorer has more reviews. Given it's past few history, they're hard to recommend is long term reliability is a main concern. I can certainly recommend other SUV's with better track records, but chances are, they won't have the heated steering wheel. Let me know your thoughts, and if you have any questions.
