Strange braking behavior - Lost brakes

My daughter was driving her 2005 Dodge Dakota Club cab. She said she thought she hit a pothole or something and her brakes "locked up on her" but she got over to the side of the road and got out to see what issue was. When she called me, the pickup would not go forward at all. I got there to bring pickup home. I push/released the emergency brake about 5 times and pumped her brake pedal. When I shifted to drive, it went, but had to about stand on brakes to get to stop. We drove it home and when I got out I noticed the brake lights didn't come on at all. Also, the brake pedal seemed to be almost to floor. The place I would take it can't get it in for a month and I am a single female with just a bit of mechanical knowledge. Can anyone out there give me an idea as to what this is? I'm confused because I've never heard of someone losing brakes after hitting a pothole and I can't explain the lack of brake lights. I'm thinking she didn't hit anything but what she felt was something breaking in the brake system. What do you guys think?

I would check fluid level and look for leaks first

With the pedal going all the way to the floor, it sure sounds like there's brake fluid leaking somewhere.
