Car Buying Advice - Purchasing a 2017/2018 1500 or 2500, do I need the 2500

I am purchasing a 2017 (or 18) Chevy 2500 (or maybe 1500 pending answers)

I got approved for a 2017 2500hd LT all star (plus a few options) 51800 marked down to 46000; with 12000 down, 624/72mo; flying out of state to the dealership (for some reason dealers near me just don't follow through). Paperwork and credit app already approved for the out of state.

What I "Need" is a work truck (plywood, drywall, hauling tool or trash trailer for remodeling), possibly a 'sales' vehicle to do bids and put on our company logo. My partner says 3/4 ton all the way for power, resale / less depreciation.

At the dealers out here the ratio is 40 1500's to 0-2 2500's with massive discounts on the 1500s and one dealer outright said oh I won't even try to sell you one, we don't have any and it isn't worth the dealer swap cost.

My question is; what should I go with, if I get a 1500 with a v8 6L will it perform the same as the 2500 or should I just stick with the 2500. I only intend to buy one truck; unless it gets totaled. Finances are: 12k down, I make 2500+ more a month than my bills after taxes. Any more questions are welcome, used crew cab long bed trucks go for 25000 @ 10 years old still around here.

also; I don't care about anything past Tow package, crew cab & 8ft bed
  • Hi @aafonso, I would look at the Chevrolet Towing Guide: http://bit.ly/2iC9lkb. If you're must have is an 8 ft bed and a crew cab, that gets rid of the 1500 for you because you can only get a standard bed (6.5 ft) or short bed.

Might want to also check the equivalent GMC. I've read they are down on their sales volume.
