Subaru BT and "Okay, Google" / Google Now assistant
Here's my setup:
2016 Subaru Impreza base model (no nav, no frills)
New LG K20 mobile phone
After pairing the Subaru BT and the LG K20, I have the following problem:
When I get an incoming call, it can be answered over the car's speakers (I hit the green pickup button on the radio LCD screen / monitor); this is good.
However, when I use "Okay, Google" / Google Now to read or send texts via the LG, it uses the phone's speakers INSTEAD of the car's speakers. UNLESS, that is, I have first set the Subaru's Audio Source to bluetooth -- only then does the LG use the car's speakers for texts :-(
This is different than my old iPhone5 -- Siri would ALWAYS use the car's speakers for texts. And for all other voice commands, too. So I could happily listen to FM radio while driving, then safely use Siri to listen to and reply to text messages over my car's speakers -- all just using my voice. No hands.
It is aggravating to have taken a major step backwards after having upgraded such an old phone to a new one! Now I have to switch the car's Audio source to bluetooth before I can use my voice to "read" my texts.
Other notes:
- I removed all other bluetooth devices before pairing my new LG, so it's the only paired device
- I tried un-pairing then re-pairing the LG
- I set the Subaru BT options on the LG to "Call audio : Use for call audio" and "Media audio : Use for media audio" and "Input device : Use for input"
- the LG is running Android 7.0 Nougat (AT&T)
- I charge the phone via the 12v receptacle in the front console (under the radio), not into the USB receptacle inside the center console
- I do not use any of the crappy Subaru StarLink apps on my phone
