I had a Dakota R/T with some work done to it and I would enjoy going out now and then and playing a little stop light grand prix. Well I was pretty confident against most Mustangs and even the occasional Z28 but hey win or lose it was a fun truck. Well I cam up on an Acura NSX one night and figured why not, I mean it is what the truck is for, figuring I could at least have a shot, Well by the time I realized that it was actually a Ferrari all I heard was the exhaust note far far away. It was pretty funny actually. Hey I probably gave him quite a laugh too.

This is only my opinion, but I judge the "fullsizeness" of a truck by what it can carry in the back. If a full sheet of plywood fits between the wheelwells flat on the bed floor, and if a fourwheeler fits between the wheelwells and there's enough room to shut the tailgate, then in my mind it's a full size pickup. I don't have a truck yet, but am looking into buying a new one. I like the Tundra because what I'm looking for in a truck is a carlike ride, quiet interior, power, and reliability.

DCD, you should have gotten one of those horns off a bicycle and blew it at the Tundra driver, maybe he would think that's quite a horn and put one of those on his rig.

Folks can judge what "full size" means all they want now, but them big3 be the ones who set the standard of what "full size" is. Strechin the bed of a mid sizer dont be makin it the full size one now. Lets not forget that toyota called them t100 ones "full size" too. Callin it the "full size" one, and it bein a "full size" one aint the same thing now. Good luck on this one now!

So who are you again? The 82 year old grandpa, the jailbird son, or the Toyota employed grandson? Come on and tell the tell on this multiple personality of yours. I seen now them shivy trucks gonna put a plastic bed on them 2001 models. Seems they trying to cut cost to compete with that powerful, well-built Tundra. What say on this latest fact?

Say 'Hi' to Bobby Joe for me.

Anyway, I must admit Trucks4Me is right about by the Standard of Full Size set by the Big3.

I saw a couple of comercials (GM and Dodge) where their full sized pickups were compared to other full sized trucks. Funny, the Tundra WAS included in their comercials. Looks like the Big3 has spoke their findings. The Tundra is a full sizer. At least they see it as a threat to their market share the same as they see the other competitors. (BTW, the Dakota was not on the list).

    My 2 cents.

I agree, making the bed bigger doesn't make it full size. But a STOCK big bed in my mind does make it full size. Of course putting a Silverado bed on an S-10 wouldn't make it full size, but the Tundra comes with a big enough bed. Sure, it's a few inches shorter in height, length, and width, but who's to say that's a bad thing. Sometimes less length can mean a lot in a small garage. A smaller width can mean a lot when meeting people on narrow backroads. And a smaller height could mean your aftermarket cab lights (similar to the ones the Chevy Avalanche has) clearing the roof in a parking garage. So to me, a few inches less in dimensions doesn't mean a whole lot, as long as the cab is comfortable. The back seat could be bigger though.

it's the price that gets me. I think the Dakota/Silverado are better values. You pay Silverado money for Dakota capabilities with the Tundra. Looks like a good truck, but still needs a little work in my opinion. I still see a few T100's around so there's no doubt that they can build it - it just needs a few inches, optional V8, etc...

Tundra!!! Bash all you want, I test drove a Dakota, when I was looking a midsize trucks and guys I swear my Tundra seems a heckuvalot bigger. I love the smoothness of the V-8 and the ride quality is superior to all trucks. To me the Tundra is perfect for me, size and all. I simply don't want a truck as big as the Big 3. They're just too big for me. My lifestyle just doesn't require a truck any bigger than the Tundra.

So bash on my friends...I love my truck!!

The PICKUPS Conference has gotten WAY too big....

it is unwieldy to manage, and difficult to use for "newbies." There is entirely TOO much topic duplication, so I will be doing some SERIOUS topic consolidation in the next few weeks, getting us down to not more than 2-3 topics per vehicle type, and ultimately down to 200 topics or less.

THIS weeks consolidation candidates are: Tundra's, Tacoma's and Rangers.

In that vein, please consolidate this Tundra topic to Welcome Toyota Tundra - V and continue these discussions there.

    Thanks!
