take it back to the dealer. There is a TSB for the clunk on takeoff. Dealers are aware of problem along with wind noise from rear quarter windows and squeaking front springs.

If my memory serves me correctly--the service manager at the dealership told me about the TSB when we test drove my truck for the clunk. Something about greasing the splines. Well they did that and clunking was gone. Good luck!!
I also have that clunking noise in my 2000 Silverado, not sure where it's coming from. Took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't hear it. They want me to bring it back and show them what I'm talking about(they were closed when I picked it up the first time) The service bulletin was for the 99 model,.Does anyone know if there is one for the 2000, if so what is it? Thanks for your help
I have a 99 Z71 and I have a clunk / clank from the rear end going over small dips. Like a speed bump upside down. If I keep my foot on the gas and hold a steady 20-25 mph I do not get the clank but is I cost over the dip I hear a loud clank. They replaced the rear springs but that did not help. I think it is from the drive shaft / diff area. Also, I get a loud clank sometimes when putting the shifter in R. It sounds like bad u joints.
Marc, I had a '69 chevy wagon that had bad u-joints like you described. My dealer said that there was nothing wrong, too. Some 60K miles later, the clunk was still there when I traded the car. Rich
Your Dealer has a technical bulitin on this problem.I had mine done also. The rear leaf spring ends are slapping together. The dealer replaces the flat pads that are there with 1" rubber nubs. YES!The rear end does move the leaf springs enough on the newer trucks when you put it into drive or reverse to cause this. It is worth a try. Brian.
When I put my 99 Z71 in R, I get 2 distinct clunks. If you look under the truck and have a friend put it in R, you will see the trans/transfer case area turn a little give a clank then the drive shaft turn and clank again. I was told by a service tech that there is 15lbs of pressure on the front drive shaft but I think my truck has more. When I take off and turn I can hear my front wheels wanting to slip especially if there is some sand on the road. I think my clank is coming from the trans area but while in the cab is sounds like the rear end.
When my '96 was new, the dealer said the clunk was normal. At 35K, the pinion seal let go and the dealer replaced it under warranty, said nothing else was wrong. The clunk was louder. At 51K the differential came a cropper. Spider gears bad, shafts worn, pinion bearings galled and burned. Gmc says no warranty, I obviously have been abusing the truck. $1800.00 to repair using used parts. Dealer wanted >$2400 in parts alone. So yes, MAKE THEM FIX THE STUPID CLUNK! Sorry, I just don't like paying huge sums of money to repair factory defects on my immaculate and carefully maintained truck.
The clank you hear in the rear end upon take-off from a stop is simply your spare tire shifting. Sounds too simple and incredibly stupid but, I've had all the noises, I've heard the dealers "cannot duplicate" crap! They lubed the splines...nothing, still made noise. Finally suggested spare tire but Chevy said no. Took it off myself...clank disappeared. Maybe GM is too proud to admit problem could be so simple. But, how many more of your Silverados will get torn apart, still brand new, only to find nothing. Check your spare tire...if yours is like mine and the noise goes away, it becomes fun to drive your truck again and no more piece of [non-permissible content removed] loaner cars!!!
my POS silverado in the shop...got a '00 Silverado xcab 4door loaner with 400 miles and no clunk, vibration, launch shudder, loose spare, lousy orange peel paint job,...no nothin
On my Camaro, I changed out ring gear, pinion, and limited slip carrier, with labor and genuine GM parts only came to about $800. Something not right about $2400 parts price.
