That would be awesome! Where did you read that?

read what ? The Buick Velite inspired Lacrosse Super or Velite Roadster ?

The Lacrosse Super might be out as early as this fall. The Buick Velite Roadster still could be built on the Sigma I or Sigma II platform. I read it either in Motor Trend or on one of the many websites I browse. We both agree that Buick needs a Convertible. I e-mailed GM a harsh letter covering alot of area's of concern. They promised me they would deliver it to the General Manager of Buick and the other heads of other divisions. They seemed pretty serious and said it was opinions from people like me
(especially a employees son) that really counts.

I gave them a long "Dear John" letter for a prescription for success. I repeatedly told them in order to save Buick and to give Tiger Woods sponsorship credibility the Velite has to see production. a Image car. I emphasized customer service had to be overhualed, Gadgetology has to be implemented to justify car price premiums, and longer warranty's which could be calculated into costs, thus giving resale. Stuff like this. The Velite has one foot in the grave I'd say. It still could see production as early as 2008 or 2009. I'll keep you informed on any new discovery's. ;)

I am hoping we can get some positive news on the Buick Velite Roadster soon. I've been looking once in awhile for a glimmer of hope and unfortunately haven't had much luck. I'm not ging to quit trying though. ;)

Now is the time Buick should seize upon the hot sales of the Lucerne and good reviews and make the Velite. Tiger Woods needs a sports car! Can you imagine the ads and the sales of a Buick convertible?

    celica8,

    We agree 100%

Tiger, could easily sell butt loads of Velites for GM. All of us Tiger Woods fans would want em'.

The perfect Buick Velite Convertible would be exactly like the concept. I'd use the 3.6 "High Feature" V-6 with 400-450 horsepower. The Buick Grand National had the 450 hp. version of the 3.6 HF-TT so that's why I said 450 hp. ;)
I'd also keep the 6-speed auto with the F-1 Paddle shifters. i'd keep the interior out of the concept, but would include a Premium Navigation System. I'd also use the Voice Recognition Technology from the STS which includes functions for the Audio, Climate, Bluetooth, Navigation, and perhaps lowering windows and maybe even the hard top to dazzle friends. The current remotes can do most of the functions depending on how many clicks of the button. This car also would have Air Conditioned seats along with heated seats. I woud also want a 5.1-7.1 DVD-Audio Surround Sound System that will shatter my ear drums. I also would want a magna-ride suspension to give me a great combo of firm and cushy ride comfort. The Velite wouldn't be a BMW on the track, but rather like a Lexus SC convertible which also is a high speed grand touring convertible. :shades:

I'd push the Cadillac XLR further upmarket to $80K and it would get over 500-600 hp. and would feature a Rear Active Steer System, Voice mic for the remote that can control various fuctions before the driver gets to the car, and other gadgets I haven't listed to distiguish the two. :)

My buisness strategy I know would work for GM.

    Rocky

    P.S.

The Tiger Woods version for "X" amount of money would include 2 sets of fitted Golf Clubs made by Nike, 2 Buick Bags with Velite embroidered on them, 2 Tiger Woods TW caps with Velite embroidered on the back, 2 Buick club scrubbers, 2 Nike Towels that are attached to the bag, 2 Nike golf gloves, and if it will fit 2 Buick Golf Bag Holder Mounts for the trunk and/or rear seats with Velcro Straps.

Geeez, I'm not bragging but shouldn't I be hired as the guy who's in charge of this project ?

Tell me what ya'll think, especially you Celica8 ?

The Velite is dead for now, but I do see the Velite possibly being built on the Zeta since this platform is expanding and it wouldn't hurt GM to further reduce costs by giving Buick a halo car. ;)

Friends of Buick are lobbying GM to build this car on one of the new upcoming platform. Many of us fans think it would sell very well and would be a great C-70, SC430, Mercedes, alternative. I'll keep y'all posted as soon as I find out more news.

It's looking like the Velite, right now is only going to get it's styling passed down to the new models. It's ashame. I was optomistic enough to think GM, would finally give buick a true halo car to be proud of. The Enclave is nice, but it's not a true boulevard cruiser with muscle car power like the Velite would of been. I guess for now all I can do is keep praying.

With GM, using the Zeta in bunches it's possible we could see a Velite in a few years. I'm holding my breath. :surprise:

I e-mailed buick today, still demanding a Buick Velite Convertible.

I would buy a Velite tomorrow if they made it. What is GM waiting for?
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,014
You and I both pal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've emailed GM, several times and can't understand why you and I, have to suffer. We aren't alone pal in our thinking. My wife and I both want a convertible that is fast and comfy to go on road trips and enjoy. If the Velite was made I without hesitation (I can't say tht about any other car) would order mine tomorrow !!!!! Buick are you listening ??????

I'm assuming the Buick Velite, is dead for good due to the lack of any info. Buick, blew a chance at making the finest american convertible ever.

It appears even more dead since Cadillac, is going to make a coupe/convertible out of the CTS which almost as cool. ;)

  • celica8celica8 Member Posts: 42
A Buick dealer told me there is talk Buick is getting a coupe/convertible, possibily debuting on the auto show circuit this year or Detroit '08.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,014
    celica8,

Well 62' said something like that if my memory is serving me correct a month or so ago. If they are going to build me my Buick Velite, they better lemme know soon otherwise the 08' CTS or CTS-V will get the sale even though "I think?" I'd rather have the Velite. :shades: Of course that would depend on the details like horsepower, gadgets, etc. ;)

You need to ask him on what platform. I think Buick should build a Velite on the next Sigma II platform and make the Velite a VERY VERY Large Coupe/Convertible that can fit 3 full-size adults in the rear and have two buckets up front. The Velite should have Magneride and be a boulevard cruiser with big horsepower via Twin-Turbo Direct Injection 3.6 "High Feature" 2-Mode Hybrid V-6 putting
out 450+ hp. :shades: So what if the Velite is just as classy or better than the CTC coupe/convertible? The CTC would be more sporty while the Velite is much larger, conservative, ride and comfort focused with magneride.

I honestly think their is a market for 2 vehicals. the CTC would be for younger buyers while the Velite would be for older drivers that would like a comfy convertible. This 28 yr. old could handle driving in the 40+ yr. old crowd. :shades:

GM are you listening we want our Velite !!!!!!

Rocky, you don't ask for much, do you? Don't forget a usable trunk with the top down. Not going to get 3 rear seats in any convertible, however. Don't know why they killed the Riviera.
I agree that would be a great car. I could buy one if they could keep it (well) under $40k.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,014
I wasn't asking for much was I *grin*

I know GM, couldn't keep it under $40K and I wouldn't want them to. I would like them to keep it under $50K for everything I asked and think that's possible. I'd rather have a upscale Lexus SC 430 only bigger over a Cadillac CTC convertible. Hell, I need a place to put my Golf Equipment. ;)

Is at least giving me a little hope. Bob Lutz, hated canceling the car and wanted to launch it at the same time as the Enclave. So just maybe he will build me my Velite, within' the next few years ? :)

  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,014
Well a couple of the guys think it will be here by 2009'. ;)

    Rocky
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,014
Well that is what Motor Trend was hinting to in the March issue as that was Lutz plan in 04' for 08' to be released along side of the Enclave. Well maybe in 2009' ? ;)

2010' a Buick Velite Sedan will be built according to Motor Trend's April issue. So it's a go. Lets just hope a 2 door hardtop convertible follows suit which would reduce costs since the sedan would be the volume seller. ;)

    Kirstie,

Please change the title to this discussion to the proper name "2010 Buick Velite Sedan" which will be the future of the Buick Velite name and body at least at first. It will be a RWD 4-door Sedan. I still think a 2-door, Hardtop Convertible will be made shortly after the sedan. These are reports from insiders at Motor Trend and Lutz, wants to save the "Velite" name and future. It will be built off the Zeta, platform like the concept from 04' ;)

    Thanks,

    Rocky

Correct - you will almost assuredly get a faster response by e-mail. Keep in mind that I generally have 500+ messages to read each morning, and only a handful of e-mails :)

Having said that, it's confusing if we keep changing titles based on rumor, so if you want to send me an "official" note of change by GM by e-mail, that'd be great.

The question remains will Lutz, build the Buick Velite Sedan/Convertible now that the RWD ZETA is paused for the momment. I suppose how strict CAFE standards congress is looking to implement will determine the out come.

I still think the quick fix is to install the new Ultra V8 with 400+ hp and use the 2-Mode hybrid to meet the fuel economy demands. The Twin-Turbo V6 with 2-Mode would work also. ;)
