I have a 93 accord with 400,000 + miles and the check engine light has started coming on when its cold out side , if I turn the car off and back on it seems to be ok most of the times??
Since a common cause of a CEL is a loose gas cap, and the light is going off, given the age of the car, the first thing I'd check is the gas cap. The rubber seal might be a little dried out and not quite sealing completely. Certainly an inexpensive fix to try replacing the gas cap before going on a search for something else.
Congrats on the 400K miles! I thought I was doing good averaging about 200K on my vehicles over the years
hi i think its some think that have a 2-way view. if you had not done servicing recently then it might be indicating that you need it very soon, but you do maintenance regularly then it could be an electrical problem and could be easily fixed. this problem i faced in my chevy 1960 camero, but a usually do the servicing on time so i checked my car by deltadieselrepair service. it was a small electrical issue they fixed it and it worked fine for me. Therefore check with your regular mechanic, you will get the solution.
True, many things can cause a CEL to come on. But I always try to start at the most common cause/simplest/least expensive fix before starting to dig for a bigger problem. $6 or so for a replacement gas cap probably solves things given the age of the vehicle.
