Accelerator pedal went out what's wrong with my car?

I have a Cadillac CTS 2004 with 166k miles on it. Recently my accelerator pedal went out and started working on and off again and one of the times my RPMs went flying up even when it was just in park. The engine moves it barely but does not accelerate what so ever. I bought a new accelerator pedal but it did not fix the problem I read a few things online saying it could be the whole throttle body so I was wondering if anyone had any opinions or similar situations. Thanks!

    Sounds like it may be drive by wire issue, no clue as to how to approach fixing it though :)
