Jerking and fluttering problems

My 2011 Chevy equinox starts jerking whenever the car is idle. Lately its been making a fluttering noise when I accelerate. I can't figure out what is wrong with the car. Nothing registers when its hooked up to the diagnostic machine. Normally, I drive Honda's. This was my first american car purchase and I highly regret the purchase. If someone could help with the problems I would really appreciate it. I have small children and I would hate for the car to give out on me with my children in the car.
