Shifting Problems Car Stayed in Reverse After Backing Up and Shifting to Drive

Had my gas tank replaced due to a recall, did some funky stuff last night when I returned from the dealership that did the work. Backed out of my driveway and shifted to drive but it stayed in reverse. Was not able to get it to shift. I thought it stalled but I'm wondering if I turned the key off myself to see if I restarted if it would shift. Hasn't started since. Any ideas?
