I know that you now have truck payments to make...so... are you in for a couple of bash shirts? One for you and one for Dad....Father's Day is coming up!!
got the HPIII and 160 powerstat today from ThunderRacing. Took 4 days from ordering to delivery. Installed both and very satisfied with results. Was going to order from truckperformance.com but heard too many bad things on the Pacific Audio Forum. Looks like this one is a winner...
In regards to the moonroof; haven't exactly put the truck through any off-road limits as of yet, but so far so good.
I have noticed a "flapping" noise at and above 80mph. I have a Lund Interceptor and am wondering if that is causing it or the windshield gasket that was mentioned a while back. I can't recall the solution posted by I'll probably put a dab of silicon between the gasket/windshield.
I too had the steering rattle. Dealer replaced the intermediate shaft with no change in symptom. Then they replaced the upper bearing/bushing at the top of the column which resolved the problem. Hope this helps.
BTW - ordered Edelbrock IAS shocks from Carparts.com. $214.00 delivered with CA sales tax. Great deal! Thanks to whoever for the coupon heads up.
I think I was the one who started the price shopping on these shocks. I got them delivered to my house for $181 and change. That was $58.91 a shock (before the 1/3 discount) and about $23 for shipping. Got this through the live chat line at Carparts.
Thought the ride was better over the stock "solid smooth ride", but not firm enough for me. The front shocks seemed to have a moderate gas charge and the rears a little less. The stock shocks on the front had no gas charge and the rears very little if any. They did slightly stiffen up the ride. It seemed like the faster you went the stiffer they became and they did absorb speed bumps very well. I never got a chance to try them with a substantial load in the rear. I just prefer a stiffer ride. Anyways shipped them back. Still waiting to see if they are going to refund the return shipping. Their customer service rep said they would and there is a place on the return forms to enter the return shipping price.
Found some RS9000 at 4 wheel parts wholesalers for $66 a shock, buy 3 get one free. They have a local distributor so no shipping. Final cost $210. Should be in this week.
I just purchased a 2000 Silverado LS, v6, loaded, ext. cab etc etc. Husky floor mats custom for silverado have worked great. I installed a pendaliner bed liner and it is great, I put in a bug shield and now I hear a noise when I reach about 35-40 mph. I didn't hear the noise before the bug shield, so I just make sure the radio is on and I don't worry about bug shield noise.
Randy, I am thinking about putting the same sunroof you got in my truck (2000 xcab 4-dr) Are you happy with the quality/fit/finish of the roof and the installation? Did you consider any other brands/models? Thanks for your time. Mike
I only owe $2500 on the truck (ill have it paid off by august) and the payments go to my grandma. Only pay for gas and insurance now (believe it or not). A guy came in with a base silverado and we got to talking he was like guess how much i paid i was like 16000 he said yep 61500 i told him i got mine for 29700 and his jaw hit the floor and he was like how in the hell can u afford that working at menards? It was great just to see the look on the guys face like your Bull shooting me you aint got a truck.
Sorry for the story but i had to share. The weather sucks around here lots of trees getting knocked down and they keep saying its gonna hail so im on hail alert if it starts to hail i gotta throw something on my truck. I wish it fit in the garage. Im gonna be praying it dont hail today.
One last thing does anyone have like a front license plate thing on their truck like a chevy or nascar one? If so where did you get it. Seems around here they are hard to find. Im going looking today. Thanks
I have a '99 - 2500 Ext. Cab with 19K miles. Over the weekend, SERVICE 4WD light came on the message center twice (it was soon after I took the truck through a touchless automatic car wash with undercarraige - could it be that sensitive to water?). Who knows, I have an appointment at the dealer Wed. morning. Will report what they find when they hook it up to the computer... I hope its not serious.
Has anyone had this problem yet? Its hard to search this site to find an exact topic for certain problems. HELP!!!
I hope nothing is wrong with the it either, this sucks.. seems OK. The message never came back since the weekend. Hope it was just a computer gliche, hey, maybe Bill Gates had something to do with this?
You're right, I haven't been here much either. Truck runs great (so glad I ended up with 4 doors!!!), no problems yet. Tows the new trailer wonderfully!! Gas mileage isn't great, but we don't worry about it. I peek in here once in a while, but nothing to add.
Weather cleared up. Couldnt put it in the garage we got our pool delivered yesterday and i have about 20 boxes in my garage. ALl the weather did was get my truck dirty oh well.
Hey my buddy John Menard owns a silverado nascar truck. HMM wonder if i could write him a letter and become the new driver??? Wow that would be cool.
Amen to that..I just drop by from time to time, can't drive my pickup and stay glued to this monitor. Ray must be on vacation, he said he was coming out West.
Ryan..You just hold the fort down for the rest of us. I'm probably the oldest person doing this site. So I have to enjoy my Silverado as much as I can. Before the rocking chair gets me....Haha.
once you get your pool installed, if it hails, i'd just put the tailgate down (to protect it) and pull the front in the garage like whoever else said. better than trying to get hail dents out. we had some a while back. biggest pieces were 'bout as big around as a nickel or quarter. no visible damage to the truck...drove right through it. yes, i've washed it since and no, no dents. maybe it's the zaino??? betcha malms doesn't do that... hehe...just messin' tim.
Last yr a guy came into work with a truck that was 2 wks old and we had golf ball size hail it looked like someone took a sledge hammer to his truck. Dont worry if worse comes to worse ill lay on top of it. Also i can throw some carpeting on it. Im not worried. Dents and scratches add character
Post #580 I have these and replaced the stock Z71 shocks but my truck had Lt 245 tires not the p 265s. Ride quality harness improved over rough roads and handling very much improved. Have had them for 4000 miles would buy again. Wilson
Has anyone taken their new Silverado for warranty work at a dealership different than where you bought it? What was your experience, did they treat you alright, or did they have an attitude?
Oh my god. Not yet im still wayyyyy to young. I will experience it one day but i want to have things and do things (get a truck and enjoy it) before i am tied down.
I actually hauled stuff in my truck today took our pool (bunch of boxes) to my grandmas garage.
Tonight i drove in a monsoon too truck was kinda whining i think it was due to 50-70 mile per hr winds and the rain coming down combined. Cant wait for snow.
Haven't had warranty work done on my Silverado, but my mom's Cavalier had a problem with the antilock brakes. The selling dealer couldn't fix it, said that it was just rear drums that were glazed. I took it to another dealer that treated me BETTER and found the problem right away.
Unfortunately I had already ordered the Silverado from the first dealer, but I like the second one better now.
Haven't heard a word from my selling dealer, I handed them a check, they handed key. Just as well after they upped price $500 at signing decided wasn't going back reguardless. But another chevy dealer (even Closer to home) has been sending free oil change coupons, newsletter about specials, however haven't driven the truck enough in 7 month to get close to first oil service change mileage. Competing dealer must have someone to search new car titles registered in the county so can attract new business. So non-selling dealer might offer better service in hope of future business, they don't know this but chevy's got a "little roadster" got eye on.
I've taken mine to the local dealer I wanted to buy from but couldn't agree on price. They were very nice, showed respect and actually seemed to want to make me happy. Now if they'd actually called me with follow up info like they promised I'd be even happier. I'm due for another trip now for them to replace the replacement part. Not their fault.
I guess it depends on the dealer, but my experience was very good. When I bought my 96 I tried at the dealer I had heard good things about. I just didn't think they were giving me a good deal. So went up the road and bought the truck for what I wanted at Dealership B. But my first trip for service into the selling dealership - I swore I'd never go back, and I haven't. Took the truck to the dealer where I had wanted to buy from (Sewell in Dallas, TX) and I've never had better service anywhere, they were great to work with and treated me very well even though I had bought somewhere else.
When I bought the 2000 I didn't look anywhere else - went straight to Sewell that had been servicing the 96. I must admit I was ordering under the GM employee discount plan this go round and my price would have been exactly the same either place. But I wouldn't ever go back to the other dealer.
A note here, even though GMC and Chevy trucks are essentially the same a Chevy dealer can not do warranty work on a GMC and vice versa. They are working on this, but its going to be another year or so before GM allows it.
I have 2 chevies that go to the same dealer for service, but only one was purchased there, my 99 Silverado. The other chevy is an older 90 S10 Blazer from another dealer. Basically, I get the same treatment, but the one is under warranty, and the other, they want to charge for a diagnosis, and then credit this against the repair bill if you let them do the work. I don't know whether the diagnosis would apply on the truck I bought from them or not. I think it probably would if it was older. But I see some people bringing Buicks, Fords, you name it for oil changes, lubes. They don't seem to turn many away. It's a good dealership. Some other dealerships I don't feel so cozy about.
By the way, I know about the Sewell dealerships in Dallas Gnipper refers to. They are even better about pampering you, way better, than Burt Chevrolet in Denver, where I go now. But Burt still rates good by me since they don't try to sell me services I don't need, and they charge fairly, ie don't overcharge.
a ways back, when i first started checking this place out, this discussion came up. i believe it was more of a situation like follows. silverado owner takes truck to selling dealer for warranty work and their service is horrible. takes it to different dealer and they say, "we don't do warranty work on vehicles we don't sell." owner is like, "huh? it's a gm vehicle, with a gm warranty, and you're a gm certified service center." owner ended up having to call chevy customer service to get the dealer to work on his truck. this is a problem that worries me too, cuz i'm in the military. my selling dealer's in ky, and i'm in sc. haven't had anything that needed attention yet - knock on wood - but i hope i don't have any problems when i do. if so, i'm going straight to chevy and the bbb. we'll see what happens. good luck!
I have a 1986 Chevrolet 305-V8 1/2 ton and would like to know if anyone could tell me what the rated horsepower is of this truck or direct me to a website where I might find this info. I bought my truck when it had 80,000 miles and it now has 121,300 miles. It does not use any oil.
An older vehicle they may assume it was used when you got it...and not throw a fuss...
I go to the same dealer....however I had a friend that had taken it to another dealer a few times for the same problem....finally he was having a tough time getting an appointment and lack of communication....finally he asked what's the problem...the service manager asked him where did he buy this car?...he said dealer X....he looked him in the eyes and said "then why don't you take it there!"
Was he pissed at fixing the same problem over and over?....or pissed that he came to them instead of him?
Usually the buzz here is take it where you bought it for best service.
My salesman actually handles all appointments for me...as well as setting up a rental..or whatever I need....kinda rolls out the carpet...after all..he wants me to buy another truck from him!
Where did you order from? Is GM actually accepting orders now for these trucks, or is the dealer just holding your order in line for when they start taking them? Thanks.
So... you can enter your order with options (no pricing) and there is a chance of allocating at the end of May for late summer builds. My dealer is dinky, little and I probably won't get allocated for several months....
I believe there rated at 170 Horse? My dad had one around that year and that's what I remember, but I could be off. 305 was a good motor, but a far cry from the horsepower of today...
Having worked at a couple of dealerships, I can put some perspective on dealer service. In a perfect world the closest dealer to home would have the best price and and best service so we could do business there. Thats not always or often the case though. Like Tim said earlier, its usually best to go to the selling dealer if possible. The reason for this is that they should be working to keep you as a customer. Its usually the rule in business that its cheaper to keep a customer than to get a new one! There are times that dealerships fix things for no cost to the customer that are NOT covered by the factory, and the dealership covers that expense. Most dealers have what is called a "Goodwill" fund that is used to help THEIR good customers, not their competition's customers. I make it my policy to have the selling dealer do my warranty work if at all possible. I also use them for some of the maintenance work that I can't do myself. If you treat them with respect and do business with them, and occasionally call and thank them when you catch them doing something right, they will bend over backwards to help you in the future.
I have not had any trouble in getting warranty work done at a dealer different than the dealer where I purchased new cars and trucks as long as the dealerships sold the same vehicles. Does the service department automatically know that you purchased the truck at a different dealership? I would guess their computer would give them that information, but I do not know for sure and no service rep. has ever questioned me as to where I bought it. Does anyone know?
I've been reading the posts lately on the 2000 Silverado 4x4 as well as the GMC Sierra 4x4. It appears that a number of you are dissatisfied with your purchase. My dilemma is this; I am in the market for a new truck and want to purchase the Chevy or GMC 4x4 (Z-71). How has your overall experience with the truck been? Would you recommend purchasing either one of these trucks or recommend another another manufacture. THe truck will not be used for off-road purposes and I have absolutely no need for a 4 wheel drive, but I want it anyway. I would appreciate your objective opinion.
I wanted to say thanks to several of you who have posted information in this topic, as well as some of the other Chevy Truck topics, about the 2000 Silverado 2500 models. Just a couple of weeks ago, I traded a '98 Z-71 Extended Cab third door for a 2000 Silverado 2500 4x4 LT.
This truck is simply awesome. I bought it because I wanted a little more power to tow my boat, but got so much more than just a powerful truck. Heated power leather seats, 4th door, auto head lights on in the dark, much more, and rides like a dream. It is Charcoal Grey in color. I had nerf bars, bed rails, bedliner, and BF Goodrich 285 tires added. Absolute beautiful truck.
I wanted to say thanks because many of your comments made me more comfortable in my decision.
Replaced the stocks with the PIAA Super White. They are brighter, sale comments of 30% probably. Just took out on a 2 lane heavy traveled road and no flashes from on coming cars. Color output similar to stocks. factory adjustments seem fine. Worth the $70, well better than stock.
Now the ones ordered for the other car from Germany with Xenon gas, now thats bright. Color output white/Blue, increase in range probably 50%+. Just about every car Flashed. So adjusted aim slightly to right more, fine now. Living outside of town in the hills has really helped side vision (Deer).

Hope nothin serious is wrong with your truck.

Even if the truck is too long for the garage, I would fit as much of the front end as I could into it to avoid hail damage.

Ordered a 2001 HD 3/4 ton 4x4 6.0L 5 speed base model CC LB.
Figure sometime late this year.
Would love to keep the 1/2 ton as a dailey driver but just can't rationalize it.
Jeeze, don't wanna start buying a vehicle every two years, sort feel like a dummy with my money.
Oh ya couldn't get the 3.73 nor the Orange paint, got all the other options I wanted with the base model.
Dealer says pricing in a month or so....
Richard
Good memory though.....
You must not have read very carefully. Most of us are 100% satisfied, and cannot think of owning another vehicle, let alone another truck.
