KBB says that is invoice. I saw on here that people were paying $40,500 for this car - below invoice.
  • chasvchasv Member Posts: 13
40,500 is a little below invoice, not much. At the dealership they will show you the invoice. It's not a secret. That price you have isn't invoice on the config you're looking at so ask to see it or have them fax it to you. Even when you see the dealer invoice it won't tell the whole story because there is a factory to dealer rebate on this car. This car can be had for around invoice at any dealership. It's just some dealerships will give it to you without much hassle and others are trying to keep the price higher to protect margins and will not budge. I promise, if you call around the tri state area, ready to buy, you will get the car at about the same price as everyone else is reporting.

I am in Cincinnati and very frustrated with my shopping experience for a RX350. I am getting about 38900 for the premium package car no nav, almost settling for that. anyone deal with anyone in OHIO? maybe I should get the nav? I get from this forum that people pay in the 37 for the premium package car and 41K with nav and all the extra. sound right? I would love a better buying experience...

Lexus of Knoxville. Had a good experience with them. Almost all negotiation was done by email. Had to wait until end of month before they met my price and had to choose from in stock inventory, but they had the color we wanted. Email me if you want more information.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the information. Could you send me some more information about how you dealt with them and the chronology of events?

    doctas,

Can you provide a contact information. I am looking for the same car at TX but without luck. I may just buy out of state and ship it to TX.

I did the same thing as you are planing to do. Got my RX350 out of state. I am pretty happy with my car (price and made) in addition to a very good experince with the sales person.

I'd like to share my experience of dealing with the Lexus of Bellevue. I did NOT buy a car from them and probably won't. The salesmen himself was nice with good manners. Everything was supposed to be easy. I test-drove a car (2007 RX350 AWD, Nav, Prem+, Tow prep, 18' wheels, etc. with the MSRP of $45706), explained that I shopped a lot, quoted some deals available out there (both Mission Viejo and Westminster in So. Cal gave me good first quotes - well below the invoice but not at as much as by $1200, yet :-)

The salesman started off really high on the price: "$44300 - that's our sale price". Yeah, right. He then went down to lower $43,000s. He later said that the dealership only makes money on this configuration if they sell the car for more than $41,500 and they can't sell a car at a loss. R-r-r-ight. I know that another shopper I happened to talk to got a quote earlier from the Internet Sales manager there for a figure which is lower than this $41,500. The salesman lied to me about that too - he "inquired" about their current internet offers and said that the lowest price they quoted away today on the same car config was $41,900. I said that I'm not buying the car at $41,500 (which is $4200 below the MSRP) so we shook hands and I left. I can't explain why it didn't work - the communication seemed to be fine. Maybe late Friday at the beginning of the month is not a good time for good RX deals, or the salesman already met his sales numbers for the day so he didn't need an extra sale badly. I don't know.

By the way, another salesman there mentioned to someone аn advertising fee of $495 that Lexus "always charges" the dealer. So, he said their invoice price is actually $40284 + $495, not what you see ($40284) on Edmunds.com or KBB.com. Not sure how true that is.

I don't regret that I didn't buy a car there (well, I still have time to do that elsewhere). I just had a bad feeling that the salesman took me for a complete idiot and lied.
I'll try my luck at the Lexus of Seattle. However, buying from out-of-state might still be a good choice (and definitely a better experience). I haven't bought from L of Westminster yet, but I liked the way they treated me from the first contact, and they gave me a very reasonable price on the first quote (although not the lowest I've seen in this forum).

Personally, I don't see a big reason not to buy a Lexus out-of-state if the price is good, especially from So. Cal - lucky you are who live there :-). Yes, it is a bit of an inconvenience and to arrange the delivery and wait for the car to come to your door (can be 10-15 days sometimes) but it is not that bad and the savings are potentially huge EVEN with the added cost of transportation (for example, LA to Seattle = $700, and about the same cost from LA to NY).
I bought the RX300 from Longo Lexus in the past and shipped it to WA and saved a bunch of money (by switching to Geico, of course ;) ). Developing a good relation with your local dealer is important, you say? Yes. So is my money.

Anyway in the Bay Area I have quotes for the msrp $ 45706 RX350 AWD for $800 to $850 below invoice.
No mention of advertising fee, yet…

    jacks2,

I've made by email public in the CarSpace profile. (ZopuhD@hotmail.com). Alternatively, you can send me text in a become-a-CarSpace-friend request.

What is the name of the dealership(s) in the Bay Area you got your quotes from? What's you car's config? Do they have lots of AWDs available (in So Cal they mostly sell FWD RXs).
If the price is this low in the Bay Areа I'd rather buy and drive the car to Seattle from there.

Has anyone purchased a new RX350 from any of the dealers in Ventura County, CA? If so, please share your experience. However, I don't mind the relatively short drive to Mission Viejo / Longo etc. that some have indicated gave them a good price if it means saving some money.

Also, I would appreciate your comments on the following (I have read so much lately that my head is about ready to explode).

(The vehicle I am interested in is a RX350 FWD, Premium or Premium Plus package, maybe Tow Prep option, no NAV)

    * Do the SoCal dealers only have the Premium Plus Package (or higher), and no Premium Packages?

    * Did anyone buy the Towing Prep package? It seems like a lot of goodies for about $150 (although I have no plans on towing anything). Or, maybe this option is hard to come by.

    * It looks possible that I can get what I want for $35k (possibly less) including destination charge ($715), even with the Premium Plus package. Does this sound reasonable?

    * I am in no rush to buy, but am thinking the last week of December - ie. month/yr end, should be pretty good.

    Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to thank everyone here for taking the time to contribute to this forum. The information I gathered here was critical to my finding an excellent deal on a new RX. Here's how my purchase transpired.

Started by pricing an RX350 w/ AWD, Premium Plus Package, Navigation, 18" wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and cargo mat on fleetrates.com. The invoice came out to $39,665, and I submitted an offer for $39,165. I was contacted the next day and offered the vehicle with the addition of heated seats and towing-prep package for $40,748, which is about $600 over invoice.

I was not interested in the additional options and thought I could do better. On the advice of a post in this forum (I forgot where) I contacted Kristina Taroni (Internet Sales Manager) at Lexus of Stevens Creek, San Jose CA. I apprised her of the offer from fleetrates and asked if she had the vehicle with only the options I originally listed. She replied almost immediately with an offer of $39,650 for the vehicle I wanted (plus heated seats) (about $500 under invoice).

I was satisfied to have reached a price below invoice in a matter of minutes, so I agreed and bought the vehicle the same day. Mine is Flint Mica w/ light gray interior. I also negotiated to $695 for the Xzylon interior/exterior protectant. The interior is very light, I thought it was ivory at first, and my wife and I have a young child whom we do not expect to be too considerate of our pricey new car.

I also financed half the price of the car and received a rate of 6.29%, which is given to FICO scores above 730 I believe.

I think that is everything. I will try to respond to any questions, but if you are in the Bay Area, all you need to know is Kristina Taroni. She was prompt, assertive, caring, and a pleasure to work with.

Anyone purchase a RX350 with Premium Plus and Nav in NY? How much did you pay? I think the Premium Plus package is a standard in NY. I don't necessarily need the Nav, but if the price is good, it wouldn't hurt.

Is the 2008 RX coming out soon?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am curious to find out how the best-selling luxury SUV in the country is selling for less than sticker?

    Won't that hurt resale?

I would think such a popular SUV would be selling close to sticker --just like the Prius.
  • maximafanmaximafan Member Posts: 592
I have been curious about this also, and I was
wondering, is the RX350 still the best selling
CUV in the country? That would be pretty
    outstanding considering this generation Lexus
has been out for almost four years now.

To be honest, here in the Tampa Bay area, I
see an awful lot of Murano's on the road. I
have seen hardly any Mazda CX-7's on the road
here. I'm wondering if anyone has any data out
there on the current sales of the RX350.
Getting back to below invoice prices, it probably all comes down to volume selling.

    lovecd,

This is my second RX I bought from CA dealers while living in WA. The first one (RX300) got delivered to my door, the second one (RX350) - I purchased and drove from San Jose 10 days ago. It is not scary as it sounds - either way (delivery or pick up in person). 2 more Edmunds members (both living in Seattle) are doing this as we speak.

You can find a lot of dependable auto shippers via reviews on http://www.transportreviews.com/. Door-to-Door delivery prices from San Jose to Seattle should be around $600 all inclusive (carrier insurance, tax, etc). Delivery time from a couple of days if you are lucky to a couple of weeks.

If you ship your car from CA you pay all the taxes (9.1%) in WA, none in CA.

Send me email (you can see it my Edmunds profile) if you have questions.

I hope your enjoying your RX. Your original email influenced me to buy the flint mica and if not for the kids. I would have bought gray interior as you. I forgot to ask, did the dealership pick you up at the airport? If I knew you were coming that weekend I would have picked you up and let you check out the black leather..

I thought Stevens Creek gave me a fair deal and if nothing more a good laugh a few days later. A fruit basket was delivered to my house and left on the porch. Remembering after buying my last new car (non Lexus) flowers were delivered to my wife, I just assumed it was from Stevens Creek Lexus and / or the salesperson. I placed the basket in my house and left for the afternoon.

That evening I opened the card and was surprised the basket was from a car dealership for my neighbor who bought a new car elsewhere and mistakenly left at my door. I told my wife not to feel disenchanted as Stevens Creek did call to make sure I knew where the service department was located……… :)

The all weather mats fit fine and I’ll be heading for the snow next week to try the AWD.
    Have a Happy New Year!

I finally decided to go down the proven path of Zopuh and others who bought their cars from Northern California dealers and drove it back to Seattle. Here are my experiences:

Researched this car for the whole of December, and wanted to buy the car at or close to Invoice price (who does'nt?). I wanted to time it towards end of year because of the bidding war that tends to start between dealership in winning new customers. I started soliciting quotes a few days before Christmas, and geographically contacted dealerships in Seattle, Portland, Northern and Southern California. The best offers came from dealerships in California. I choose Northern California because of proximity and also because of a cousin who lives there and who was able to do some ground work for me before I went to the dealership.

I bought a RX 350 AWD with Prem Package, Nav, 18" wheels, heated seats and few other less expensive options. My MSRP came to 45706. I bought this car at 39388 (same as Zopuh's price) + TTL. Based on the ease with which I was able to get the dealers to agree to that sale price, I now think I may have been able to get the price reduced further if I tried. Overall, I am happy with the car, the price and the overall dealer experience. I bought this car from Putnam Lexus in Redwood City, CA. I considered Lexus of Stevens Creek, but the sales guy I was dealing with blew the deal for himself by changing the car on me a day before I was to go to California.

I drove the car back to Seattle area, which is a 13 hour drive but leaves about 2000 bucks in my wallet based on the price difference between Seattle and California. Historically, dealerships in Southern California under cut prices that Northern California dealers offered.

I could write more details about my buying experience, or answer specific questions any one out there may have. This board has been extremely helpful in my buying decision, and I will contribute back to this board by talking about my experiences.

I was kind of late after reading those posts from Zopuhd and others regarding purchasing this vehicle from CA. The sales man from LOSC did not offer that price because it is almost last 2 days of year 2006. I'm not too sure how the price going to be changed during the whole full year. Is year end (Nov or Dec) the best time to get the best offer? Can anybody give some advise or suggestions here?

    Thanks!
  • chasvchasv Member Posts: 13
They told you that they couldn't give you a good price because it's too late in the year? This doesn't sound right. Cars don't appreciate so I can't see why you'd have to pay more later. Plus the 08's are coming out in January/Feb so this really makes no sense to me.
  • zopuhdzopuhd Member Posts: 13
And I thought the December to Rembember sales event ends Jan 2, not Dec 31. Was I wrong?

Having contacted 13 Lexus dealerships on the West coast (from Seattle, WA to Long Beach, CA). I can say that the best first Internet quote I received was from Putnam Lexus of Redwood City (Lexus of Stevens Creek where I actually bought the car easily matched that offer). The price offerd to me was $39388 on $45706 MSRP (KBB invoice of $40283 for this car does NOT count the $495 Lexus advertising fee, so the real invoice might be different from what you see on KBB.com).

Magnusson Lexus and Coliseum Lexus in the Bay Area followed up on their reasonable initial offeres trying to get my busiees but it was too late. So. Cal. dealers (Westminster, Mission Viejo) gave reasonable offers but seemed to be short on AWD cars so they were kind of inactive/slow in further negotiations (probably because AWD's are harder to get in So. Cal). Longo Lexus doesn't sell car out-of-state any more. So, No. Cal. came out the winner in this dealer contest.

Lexus dealers in Oregon couldn't compete with CA prices as expected.

Seattle area dealers weren't willing to get close to the invoice price. However, dealing with L of Seattle was much more pleasant (I have no hard feelings left for them) than L of Bellevue (salesmmen at which are full of s... - they simply lie in you face). Instead of giving me a reasonable initial quote like L of Seattle did, L of Bellevue salesman started off saying that they have a sale price of $44000+ on the $45706 (MSRP) car. Yeah, right.

Lexus of Spokane in WA told me the best they could offer is $1000 off of the MSRP and advised that I try my luck in Seattle. At least I didn't waste my time with them.

Bottom line: No. Cal. are very aggressive and competitive selling the RX350 AWD. Buying a car out-of-state is worth it and not scary at all, and saves you a bunch of money (and nerves too). I love the RX (that's my second one)! :)

    Zopuh and zozk,

I will probably try Putnam Lexus of Redwood City and see if I can get any luck. Should I just send them a request or need to talk to the specific sales man as you spoke before?

The other thing is, LOSC insists that they will issue me the temporary registration pass if I drive the car back by myself. Other wise, they are not allowed me to drive it. In this case, I need to pay registration cost on both State, CA and WA.

Zopuh and zozk, how did you handle this?

    Many thanks!
  • zopuhdzopuhd Member Posts: 13
    Lovecd,

Send me private email if you need details. I got an email quote from the Fleet and Internet Manager (that's his title) over there after I sent an quote inquiry via their web site. Another Edmunds member bought the RX two days ago from a different sales manager at Putnam at the same price that I got quoted ($39,388) - so it seems they all are on the same page price-wise.

The temporary one-way pass costs $16. The LoSC guys especially their Finance Manager know that. They put this pass on your windshield.
Other than that and 8.25% CA tax and a $8 CA tire fee you won't pay anything in CA. You'll do the real registration in WA.

  • zozkzozk Member Posts: 7
    Lovecd,

I would suggest you send a quote request via their web site. I sent them a "to the point" message asking them to quote the best price possible since I was accepting quotes from various dealers and will make my decision within a few days. The first quote that came back from Putnam was not their best. I had to give them this magic number and ask them to match it. They did match it. I can PM message you the name of the sales guy I dealt with. The guy I dealt with worked at Stevens Creek before he moved to Putnam, which was not necessarily a good thing for me as a buyer.

I have not read your past messages, but from the most recent message it occurs to me that you have decided to buy from Putnam. I would suggest you keep them guessing until you have gone through the transaction. I found Putnam to be a good dealership to buy from. They stayed true to their words, gave me the quote for a vehicle and stuck to it. The finance guy was very quick and efficient. Overall, I would recommend Putnam to others based on my experience with them.

About the registration process, I would "ditto" everything Zopuh said. Take the one-way pass from the dealership. Putnam did the same thing for me that LoSC did for Zopuh. The one-way pass allows you to drive from the dealership to your home (nothing more, nothing less). Once you reach home, you are expected to register with WA state.

One last thing: If you are going from WA state to CA to buy this car, I would suggest you get quotes from LoSC, Putnam and Magnusson before going there. The other dealers may serve a contingency plan if the deal with the first dealer falls through for whatever reason.

Best of luck with it. Plan ahead and follow through quickly.
  • zozkzozk Member Posts: 7
Don't forget to take proof of insurance with you. Putnam will not let you drive car out of their lot if you cannot give them a copy of proof of car insurance.
  • lovecdlovecd Member Posts: 50
    Zozk,

Thanks for your message! If you don't mind, can you PM me the name of the sales guy you dealt with in Putnam? My email address is: tshauni@yahoo.com.

    Thanks again!

For the past 2 years I have had a goal to buy a new Lexus RX for my wife. We have made every sacrifice to save the money, working extra hours & saving every cent we could so that we could pay cash for our new car. On 12-29-06 I went to Lexus of Cerritos after shopping online and made a deal with Mr. Trey Williams. I put $1,000.00 down on a car that was suppose to be on the lot on 12-31-06. I called Trey on 12-31-06 and was told that the car was there but could not be prepared on that day or on 1-1-07 because of the holiday, but the car would be ready to pick up on 1-2-07 at 4:00pm. With checkbook in hand and one very excited wife we drove to Lexus of Cerritos only to be told that our car was not on the lot yet. Disappointed but being assured by Trey that the car would be available on 1-3-07 we agreed to do the remainder of the paperwork so that we could simply come back on 1-3-07 and take the car home.
While filling out the credit check paperwork the true colors of Lexus of Cerritos came out, now the price had changed. Trey and his manager now tell me that the car can not be sold for the agreed upon price. I showed all the e-mails and the paperwork including the $1,000.00 receipt to the gentlemen and they still refuse to honor the deal. I thought this type of shady dealing went by the wayside years ago. Lexus of Cerritos truly has made this a December to remember for both me and my wife!

Posted this to the other thread, but thought it should go here as well...
I am another appreciative forum reader who has benefited from the info posted here. Thanks everyone! Just brought home our 2007 RX350, AWD, 18" wheels, Premium Plus, Navigation, heated seats, black with light gray interior. MSRP $45,706, invoice $40,866. Long story, but after reading the forum for a month I used the tips and waited til Christmas slow-down to negotiate. Sent e-mails to Ray Catena, Burdick in Syracuse, Dorschel in Rochester and Northtown in Buffalo with my offer of $40,200. Ray Catena immediately offered $500 above invoice, Northtown came in with $100 BELOW invoice and Dorschel initially offered only $1350 over invoice. After negotiating Dorschel to match Northtown, I was close to accepting, then got a last-minute call back from Northtown saying they would go $400 BELOW, so I accepted. Final price $40,466 including destination, no extra charges besides TTR. I was extremely pleased, considering most buyers in the East can't seem to get below invoice. Internet sales guy at Northtown was terrific. Straight-shooter, personable. Love the ride!! Good luck.

Did my homework, thanks largely to the information posted on this website. Drove the RX several times at four different dealerships. Based on the info I acquired here, I sent emails to seven (7) dealers in the San Francisco Bay Area on December 30 and December 31. Received telephone calls and emails immediately from three dealers and internet offers from three more dealers. The specifics I was looking for were the Bamboo Pearl with the grey interior, dark wood, premium package and GPS, no Mark Levinson sound system.

The preliminary emails that I received were that I could purchase the vehicle for $1000 off invoice. The MSRP was $45,706, invoice $40,769.

At 9:00 a.m. this morning, I received a telephone call from Amal Bouhmouch, Fleet and Internet Manager, Lexus of Serramonte in Colma. He stated he had the vehicle that I had requested and would match the internet offers that I received from other dealers (who may not have had this particular vehicle). I was in the dealership by 2:00 p.m. Amal handed me the keys and let me take a test drive without a salesperson. I was gone 15 minutes, and purchased the vehicle for $39,769. There was no pressure to buy any of the back end products as "Touch or Class" or Lojack. Overall, a very positive experience and I am very happy.

    Cheers.

    1. File a complaint with the better business bureau.
    2. You made an offer and they accepted. You have a contract. After you file the complaint with the better business bureau I would make it clear that you intend to sue them for breach of contract and specific performance.

I heard the model year 2008 will come out in a couple of months time. I'm just curious that should model year 2007 get cheaper price by that time? Or has nothing to do with it at all.

    Dear sir,
I too own and RX 350. I purchased a lexus RX350 prem plus with nav AWD for 40269. This was 500 dollars below invoice. Invoice on all of them in this configuration is 40769. I only know because I asked them to print it for me. I probably could have saved more but......... what are people really paying?

That is a bit under cost. Invoice on this car is 40769. I too have one. I paid 40269 in California at a bay area dealership. There should not be any charges over the vehicle price. I am suprised they are doing that. The lexus dealer I dealt with was different than your typical stereotype.

    Hi BillyJoe
Where in the DC area (dealership ? ) did you purchase your vehicle from , and which month ? 40769 is the invoice (as per CarsDirect), and so if you got it @ 40269 , you did well, my friend. Am keen on knowing which dealers are giving good deals.

I took delivery this weekend on an RX350 AWD w Nav. The experience dealing with Crissy, our salesperson, and the rest of the Ray Catena staff has been excellent. There was no pressure, she offered a strongly discounted price, handled everything by mail and had the car ready and waiting for pickup when promised.

I would (and will) buy another car from her in a minute.

that is current carsdirect pricing which should be widely available at dealers as the 2008's will be in showrooms later this month.
