Check Engine light is stuck on after repair

Our 2003 Subaru Outback had a check engine and code come up - a very reputable mechanic fixed the heat sensor but now the Check Engine light is still stuck on. We have disconnected the battery to try to clear it but no difference. Anyone had the same type of problem? thanks
