2005 Ford Ranger. Transmission shop said torque converter went bad have to replace whole transmission. How do I tell if they replaced or rebuilt? Truck had original factory transmission. Had a conversation with shop that has called their honesty into question. Any ideas??? Rebuild was $1500-$1700. Replace $2750.

Their invoice should state whether a new or rebuilt trans was replaced.
Are you questioning whether the put a new or rebuilt one in?
Or are you questioning why they needed to replace the transmission if the torque converter went bad?
If the converter came apart and sent material into the transmission, there really isn't any way to clean it properly without rebuilding or replacing it.
