Ignition switch

I have a 1998 bmw 528i. The key would spin completely around but if you played with it you could start it. To turn it off you would have to disconnect it at the steering column. I got a new ignition switch and security ring. Had a shop install them now the key will not turn. I called bmw and they stated your key is worn and the switch is new. So you need a new key. I get the key and it still will not turn. I then take it to bmw and they say it’s the ignition housing. Is there a way to bypass this?
