4wd problems

I am working on an 01 sr5. All the forums and comments I have found mention the front diff being offset to the right, on this 01 it offset to the left or driver’s side. I am having trouble finding the vsv sol on this truck. We are having problems both engaging and disengaging 4wd. The rear switch on transfer case has to be disconnected for anything to happen at all. I am at wits end with this thing. Sometimes we can get it to work somewhat correct and others not at all. If I do get it to work. Then once you disengage it you have to cycle the key to get it to work again. And the 4wd act mot is drawing the battery dead with key off.
