I have a 98 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with 5.9 liter engine. It turns the overdrive of and on when it wants to. The engine does not have to be running. It has done this before and just stopped. Has not done it for almost 2 years. Been doing it for 5 days now. Any ideas?

    Does it actually take it out of overdrive while you're driving? Can you feel/hear the engine rpms increase when it goes out of overdrive? Since you said the engine does not have to be running, it might be a fualt in the indicator light rather than it actually shifting out of overdrive
