Engine Falters

I recently had my 2006 VW Rabbit serviced because I am on a long trip. My car suddenly started faltering, as if I was going over bumps, and the engine light flashed on and off. I pulled over and took a look under the hood. All seems ok. I started up again and the same thing happened. It shudders as it speeds up but not when decelerating. Is this an easy fix, what could it be?

Have you had it checked for any codes? A flashing check engine light is NOT a good thing and you shouldn't drive it. At this point it could be anything, but your description sounds similar to something that happened to one of my vehicles last year. Flashing check engine light, running VERY rough, all sorts of smoke out of the exhaust. Turned out a rodent (likely a chipmunk) had chewed on my wiring harness to the point where it caused shorts. Threw off the engine timing.
